Spring Servitization Conference 2021

The two research fellows Alexander Arzt and Lino Markfort from the project Data Mining and Value Creation participated in this year's Spring Servitization Conference. Organized by the Advanced Services Group, this year it revolved around the focus topic “Servitization: A Pathway towards a Resilient, Productive and Sustainable Future”.

Data-based value creation with DAVIE and pilots

Pilot project with LMBV completed

Well-visualized data sets support renaturation projects

A team of scientists from the Data Mining and Value Creation project has successfully completed the pilot project with Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbh (LMBV). The pilot project developed a prototype software solution for more efficient processing of inquiries about mining rehabilitation activities.

Business Ecosystems for Digital Servitization

On February 4th, 2021 the winners of the Best Paper Award 2020 of the Fraunhofer IMW were selected. The second place went to Alexander Arzt, Research Fellow in the project Data Mining and Value Creation, with his paper “Business Ecosystems for Digital Servitization”. He had presented the paper at the Spring Servitization Conference 2020.

In this article, Prof. Dr. Heiko Gebauer and Alexander Arzt provide a guide for dealing with business model dynamics. It was published in the Industrial Marketing Management Journal and allows businesses to identify and adapt the components and barriers in their business dynamics.

On November 9th, 2020, the World Bank published the report “Europe 4.0: Addressing the Digital Dilemma”, with contributions by Prof. Dr. Thorsten Posselt, Institute Director of Fraunhofer IMW, Dr. Riad Bourayou, Research Fellow at the Chair of Innovation Management and Innovation Economics at the University of Leipzig, and Dr. Sebastian Haugk, Team Leader Concept and Method Development in the Data Mining and Value Creation project.

Virtual reunion for the focus group

If product-oriented companies focus on how digital solutions can be integrated into the existing portfolio, a familiar and constant field will become more dynamic. In the context of digitization, companies must look for the “sweet spot” between the possibilities of new digital technologies and the needs of their customers. Against this background, the Data Mining and Value Creation project team has initiated a focus group on “Selling Digital Solutions”.

Since March 2020, the Data Mining and Value Creation team at Fraunhofer IMW has been working together with Werkzeug-Eylert, a tool wholesaler from Chemnitz, on two exciting questions concerning data-based value creation.

Inspired workshop at the 18th Forum INNOVATION

On November 12 and 13, 2019, the Fraport Forum at Frankfurt Airport and the House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM) held the 18th INNOVATION Forum of the Platform for Innovation in Germany (PFI-D). Over two days, around 300 cross-industry specialists and managers from business and science discussed future topics such as digitization, collaboration and cross-innovation.

Digital transformation and innovation in Saxony

At the beginning of October, scientists from the Fraunhofer IMW discussed Saxony's economic situation and the corresponding role of digitisation with representatives of the State Ministries for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport (SMWA) and for Science and the Arts (SMWK) in Dresden. The symposium “Digital Transformation and Innovation” at the SMWA gave rise to this debate.

Presentation on data economy at the World Bank

On 28 and 29 May 2019, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Posselt, director of the Fraunhofer IMW, Dr. Riad Bourayou, research manager at the Fraunhofer IMW, and Dr. Sebastian Haugk, research fellow in the Data Mining and Value Creation project, were guests at the World Bank in Vienna. The title of the workshop was “Europe 4.0: Sharing the New Economy”.
