The project Data Mining and Value Creation was part of the program at the Research Day of the Fraunhofer IMW on January 24, 2019. Project manager Prof. Dr. Heiko Gebauer gave a short overview of the project and presented the concept of the Digital Lead Factory. Such a factory plays a pioneering role in the production network and offers a test environment for data-based processes.

Milan Pentrack and Bastien Bodenstein, research fellows in the project, then presented their main areas of work. Milan Pentrack spoke about data and use inventory. The aim of this method is to give companies an overview of their existing data and its possible uses. This will result in a database of use cases, which will ultimately serve as a decision-making aid for new data processing models.

Bastien Bodenstein is responsible for initiating pilot projects with Saxon companies. A pilot project might start, for example, when companies approach the Data Mining and Value Creation team because they want to implement an application. The idea for a prototype can also be developed in the creative atmosphere of a workshop together with the project team. It is important for pilot projects in the context of Data Mining and Value Creation that they can be transferred to other fields of application.

At the start of the research year, the Research Day offers Fraunhofer IMW employees the opportunity to present their current projects in short poster presentations.
